Book "Time is Money – How to Collect and Sell Watches." Author: Mateusz Piechnik
Watches They attract interest both as functional and fashion items, as well as collector's items and as a way to make money or invest financial surpluses.
Unfortunately, this popularity hasn't been matched by knowledge. The information found online is often fragmented, inconsistent, and even contradictory. A watch enthusiast just entering this world may feel lost in the maze of information. The market clearly lacks a "tool" that would consolidate useful knowledge in one place.
In Time is Money , you'll learn how to begin your watch adventure, where to seek knowledge, and how to select it. I'll introduce you to the world of collecting, offering tips on how to acquire watches for a collection that's not only beautiful but also valuable. And if you're thinking about making watches your living someday, I'll help you navigate the journey from enthusiast to professional watch dealer.
Who is this book for?
The idea for this guide was born several years ago and stemmed from my observation of the needs of the Polish watchmaking community. So, who is Time is Money – How to Collect and Sell Watches aimed at?
- For anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of watches , because it makes the reader realize how powerful thematic knowledge is, helping to expand our horological horizons, while at the same time pointing out the best sources – books, websites, databases and museums (Chapter I).
- For collectors , it helps you start building a collection. It includes practical advice on choosing a watch, how to assess its condition, what to look for when shopping, and how to enhance the value of your collection and protect it (Chapter II).
- For those who wish to pursue a career in watches , it provides practical advice based on my (and others') decades of experience in effectively and profitably selling watches, starting from the purchase stage, through preparing them for sale, independently increasing their market value, preparing the offer, and finally, successfully selling them. I also cover important topics, such as the legal and tax aspects of the watch trade and building strong and lasting relationships with customers (Chapter III).
- For anyone interested in other watch-related activities , this book explores niches and businesses within this industry. The book offers a close-up look at the profession and specifics of a watchmaker, a leatherworker who makes watch straps, a specialist in case or dial restoration, a watch manufacturer, a creator who runs a dedicated YouTube channel, and many others, thus broadening our awareness of just how vast and diverse this world is (Chapter IV).
I hope that Time is Money will be not only enjoyable but also valuable and useful reading for you.
